Feed Your Reader at From Left to Write

It’s Friday! That means more books to feed your reader. I haven’t read all of these these books yet, but they are headed right onto my to-be-read list. I just need more hours in the day. Heck, I didn’t even get to read during my vacation last week!

Creativity Inc by Ed Catmull

I read an excerpt Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, in Fast Company magazine and was fascinated Pixar’s use of what he calls the Braintrust. It’s a look inside the successes and failures of Pixar and how creativity is encouraged in the company. I enjoyed the excerpt so much, I actually pre-ordered it. Release date: April 8, 2014.

Collector of Dying Breaths by MJ Rose

I’m a big fan of M.J. Rose and her newest novel is The Collector of Dying Breaths. Her books are a mix of suspense, mystery and historical fiction. Reknowned mythologist, Jac L’Etoile learns of the sixteenth-century perfumer who may have been working on an elixir that would unlock the secret to immortality. Her research returns her to Florence, Italy as she chases the secret recipe to the elixir. Release Date: April 8, 2014.

Pioneer Girl by Bich Minh Nguyen

I originally picked up a copy of Pioneer Girl by Bich Minh Nguyen because she’s Vietnamese American. While I read the Little House on the Prairie books as a kid, I wasn’t enamored with them like protagonist Lee Lien was. Jobless after earning a Ph.d., Lee returns to her mother’s home in the Chicago suburbs. Her brother disappears and leaves her with a family heirloom: a brooch that may have belonged to Laura Ingalls Wilder. She throws herself into a search to prove its previous ownership and in turns, discovers that she has more in common with Wilder than she thought. On sale now.

Bellagrand by Paullina Simons

Looking for a lovers’ saga you can lose yourself in? Bellagrand by Paullina Simons follows Italian immigrant Gina who is headstrong but wants a family. Enter Bostonian Harry who is idealistic and political. Follow their journey over four decades and two continents as they go from a small Massachusetts town to a mystical places called Bellagrand. On sale now.

What new books have you discovered this week? Which of these will you be adding to your list?
